Advisory
Following recommendations are made for forthcoming week for soybean growers to manage their crop:
1. Incidence of leaf eating caterpillars is likely in near future. Farmers are advised to install “Bird Perches” and Pheromone Traps in soybean fields.1. Incidence of leaf eating caterpillars is likely in near future. Farmers are advised to install “Bird Perches” and Pheromone Traps in soybean fields.
2. Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh is experiencing rainfall continuously for last few days. Under this situation leaf eating caterpillars prefer to feed on flowers and young pods resulting in non-pod formation. Farmers are advised to inspect their crop closely and ensure that no leaf eating caterpillars are present.
3. In case leaf eating caterpillars are noticed, the crop should be sprayed with microbial insecticides like Beauveria bassiana (Fungus) or Bacillus thuringenesis (bacteria) or Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus.
4. In case of non availability of above microbial insecticides leaf eating caterpillars should be managed with spray of Rynaxypyr (chlorantraniliprol) @ 100 ml/ha or Quinalphos @ 1.5 lit/ha or Indoxacarb @ 500 ml/ha in 500 lit water.
5. Plants infested with white fly transmitted yellow mosaic virus disease should be removed from the field and buried outside field. For the control of white fly the crop should be sprayed with Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 600 ml/ha.
6. In area affected by girdle beetle, spray of Trizophos @ 800 ml/ha or Thaicloprid @ 650 ml/ha in 500 liter of water.
7. In area affected by heavy rains during last few days, farmers are advised to make proper drainage channel and do not allow standing water for more time.
8. To mitigate the effect of low rainfall/drought, farmers are advised to provide life saving irrigation (Sprinkler/Drip/Other). Similarly other measures like inter culture operations using Dora / Kulpa /Manually may also be taken up, which will help in retaining the available soil moisture and in avoiding the effect of drought. Further, it is advised to spread bio-mulch (soybean/wheat straw/other straw- @ 5 t/ha) between the rows to retain soil moisture.
9. In case, soybean crop is of around 15-25 days duration, proper weed management strategies using recommended herbicides (Imazethapyr/Quizalofop ethyl/ Quizalofop-p-tefuril/ Phenoxiprop-p-ethyl @ 1 lit/ha or Chlorimuran ethyl @ 36 g/ha) or by manual weeding operations may be followed.
